Sheldon Haudenschild will be moving out of his family owned No. 93, 410 Winged Sprint Car and moving into the Stenhouse Jr. / Marshall Racing No. 17 for the 2018 World of Outlaws season.

In his rookie season, Sheldon recorded 12 top-five finishes and 41 top-10’s on his way to finishing seventh in the points and winning the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year honors.

At the start of the 2017 Outlaws tour, the No. 17 was filled by Joey Saldana before the team owners decided to go another way and offered the car to the 59-year-old father of Sheldon and five-decade veteran, Jac Haudenschild. With Sheldon moving into the No. 17, Jac will move back into the family owned Sprint.

Last year was NASCAR driver Ricky Stenhouse Jr.’s first year as a team owner. He formed the team with Matt Wood who will be transitioning out of an ownership role to make room for Richard Marshall, of Clauson, Marshall, Newman Racing, will come on as the new co-owner.

“Matt Wood really helped me be able to start up this team,” Stenhouse said. “Matt was a great mentor and overall just a great friend. He has decided to step away and do a little more racing with his family out on the West Coast, but he’s still a great supporter. An opportunity arose allowing Richard and myself to become partners for next season. Richard’s support throughout the dirt community shows his passion for the sport.”

The former Stenhouse-Wood team won their first race this year at Eagle (NE) Raceway in June while in between drivers. Fellow NASCAR star Kyle Larson took advantage of a rare night off and led the team to their solo victory of the year. In total, the 17 recorded six top-fives and 23 top-10’s.

Stenhouse is convinced that Sheldon will be a natural fit after Jac spent the last six months with the team building chemistry.

“I think we have a good opportunity next year with Sheldon transitioning over after Jac drove for us this season,” Stenhouse said. “Jac really helped us evaluate our cars and helped us know what we needed to improve. The chemistry of the team is strong which is very important.”

With the addition of NOS energy as a full-time sponsor for the No. 17, the 24-year-old Sheldon is a perfect new ambassador for the youth based energy drink.

Sheldon is excited for his new opportunity with Stenhouse Jr. / Marshall Racing and to have the chance to race a second season alongside his dad in the series.

“It’s been a dream of ours for a long time,” Sheldon said. “Not a lot of people get to say they’ve raced at the highest competition level in the world with their dad. It means so much to me, and to be able to do it is unreal.”

During the Crown Jewel, three-day event of the Kings Royal at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, the father-son duo started side-by-side in two of the three nights on the track to the delight of their home state fan base.

“It was cool to start next to Sheldon at the Kings Royal,” Jac said. “To race him on the track, and to see him first-hand on his first year with The Outlaws. I told him the competition would be tough, and he did a great job.”
