Team Penske Drivers Disqualified From Indy 500 Top 12 Qualifying
Two Team Penske drivers were disqualified from Indianapolis 500 Top 12 qualifying on Sunday.

Scott McLaughlin, Josef Newgarden and Will Power won't give Team Penske a clean sweep of the front row at this year's 109th Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge. Sunday's Top 12 qualifying to set the stage for the evening's Fast 6 final round took a dramatic turn when Newgarden and Power failed technical inspection, which added to an already tumultuous day for Team Penske.
In Top 12 practice earlier in the day, McLaughlin, last year's Indy 500 polesitter, crashed hard in an airborne mishap. He'll start 12th in May 25's Greatest Spectacle in Racing while Newgarden and Power will likely join their teammate in the third row and start 10th and 11th.

"It was a body-fit violation on the rear attenuator, so as quick as this process happens, we ran it through tech and got everybody in line, and then right near the end, or prior to qualifying, they decided to pull out of line," IndyCar technical director Kevin Blanch told FOX Sports' Georgia Henneberry.
The FOX Sports broadcast first reported the turn of evenings, saying that Chip Ganassi caught Team Penske "working on the attenuator, the rear of the car, right before they were set to begin qualifying."
"Chip Ganassi says, 'They can't do that. That's not allowed, you're not allowed to make these changes once you've gone through tech,'" the FOX Sports broadcast continued to report.
"Essentially, the 12 car had actually passed inspection and as the 2 went through inspection, it was pointed out that basically the officials didn't like what you saw on television there," Team Penske IndyCar president Tim Cindric told FOX Sports' Kevin Lee. "There was a blending on the attenuator and we decided, let's look at that. The 12 car was the same way. There was no reason to run the 12 car knowing it was like the 2 car. They didn't like the 2 car.
"I went back and looked at the 3 car this morning, and it didn't have that. There's a bit of a randomness internally we need to sort out. It's a shame we didn't give our guys a chance to go for it."
Felix Rosenqvist, Pato O'Ward, Robert Schwartzman, Scott Dixon, Alex Palou and Takuma Sato have all advanced to this evening's Fast 6 qualifying at 6:25 p.m.
David Malukas, Christian Lundgaard, Marcus Ericsson didn't advance out of the Top 12, having qualfied seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively.
