Indy 500 betting favorite Alex Palou of Chip Ganassi Racing topped Saturday's qualifications at Indianapolis Motor Speedway with a blistering four-lap average of 233.043 mph, edging out Team Penske’s Scott McLaughlin, last year's event polesitter (233.013 mph) and reigning two-time event champ Josef Newgarden (233.004 mph).

The top three were separated by just 0.039 mph. Arrow McLaren's Pato O’Ward (232.820 mph) and Ganassi's Scott Dixon (232.659 mph). Kyle Larson, meanwhile, will start 21st in May 25's Indy 500 as he misses the Top 12 by nearly a whole half mile per hour at 231.326 mph.

After flipping hard in his initial qualifying run, Colton Herta managed to return to action and barely make the top-30 as his 230.192 mph ranked 29th.

Marco Andretti, Rinus VeeKay, Marcus Armstrong and Jacob Abel were bumped (positions 31-34) and those four will vie for the the final three spots on Sunday's Bump Day. Advancind to Sunday's Top 12 are: Palou, McLaughlin, Newgarden, O'Ward, Dixon, Robert Shwartzman, David Malukas, Felix Rosenqvist, Takuma Sato, Will Power, Marcus Ericsson and Christian Lundgaard.
