As race time approached for Sunday’s grand reopening of West Virginia Motor Speedway, Cody Watson, the young promoter who had the vision to bring the Mineral Wells track back from the dead, glanced across the expansive grounds at the facility’s iconic terraced hillside seating area and almost couldn’t believe his eyes.

The Valvoline Iron-Man Northern Series kicks off its season Sunday for the 'Return to West Virginia Motor Speedway' with a 30-lap, $8,000-to-win event. Another stacked field is expected to tackle the revamped facility that has sat dormant for eight seasons. Donnie Moran was victorious at one of the last Late Model special events held at the track before it near, decade-long hiatus. His son Devin Moran, Jonathan Davenport, Brandon Overton, and Tyler Erb are among the expected entries. Promoter and general manager Cody Watson has spent the better part of the last year restoring the track to its original 5/8-mile configuration. The Steel Block Late Model Series is also on the card competing in a $2,000-to-win event. Tune in at 6:00pm ET for live coverage on FloRacing.

West Virginia Motor Speedway has added $2,650 to the race purse and a $500 fast time award to Sunday's Valvoline Iron-Man Racing Series event that's reopening the 5/8-mile oval in Mineral Wells.
