5. Cottle Closes 13-Year Gap Between Silver Crown Wins

Oct 28, 2020

Shane Cottle’s Aug. 9 victory at Selinsgrove (Pa.) Speedway not only was impressive with his charge from 23rd to 1st while overcoming several obstacles, but also because a new USAC record was set in the process.  Cottle became the newest record holder of the longest duration between USAC Silver Crown victories.  It had been 12 years, 11 months and 8 days since the Kansas, Ill. driver raced to victory at the Du Quoin (Ill.) State Fairgrounds in 2007.  The record prior to Sunday night was the nearly 10-year span between Ron Shuman’s wins in 1982 and 1992.
