NASCAR Cup Series driver Ryan Preece will once again return to his roots Friday night to battle a stout field of Modified stars at Stafford Motor Speedway. Preece, who drives the JTG Daugherty Racing No. 37 on Sundays, is one of 29 drivers currently entered for the Bud Light Open Modified 80.  

Friday’s race is the third of four Open Modified events scheduled at Stafford in 2021. Mike Christopher, Jr. (May 14) and Chase Dowling (June 11) visited victory lane in the two previous Open Modified races at the track. Dowling has entered the race, while Christopher Jr. has withdrawn his entry as a result of his car not being ready. 

An impressive list of competitors will be looking to join Christopher and Dowling on this season's win list, including NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour stars Patrick Emerling, Craig Lutz and Eric Goodale.  

Former Modified Racing Series (MRS) champions Woody Pitkat, Anthony Nocella and Chris Pasteryak will all be chasing their first Tour-type Modified checkered flag of the 2021 season.  

Friday’s race will serve as the sixth race of the 10-race Call Before You Dig Modified Challenge, which combines the four Open Modified races at Stafford and six Tri-Track Open Modified Series races.  

Ronnie Williams, who is entered for the Bud Light 80, currently leads the point standings by two points over Ryan Preece and Ron Silk. The winner of the CBYD Modified Challenge will receive $8,110 at the end of the 2021 season.
