One of the most highly-anticipated NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour seasons in recent years kicked off Saturday night at New Smyrna Speedway. Four-time champion Justin Bonsignore claimed his 48th career tour victory and his first-ever NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour win at the New Smyrna Beach oval.

Bonsignore started from the pole position after setting fast time in qualifying, but his path to victory lane wasn't easy. After battles with Ryan Preece and Austin Beers during the race, the Long Island native took the lead from Beers for the final time with 35 laps to go. From there, Bonsignore fended off Tyler Rypkema on a pair of late restarts, including a green-white-checkered restart, to score the victory. 

Rypkema held on to finish second, while Beers began his championship defense with a third-place run. 

In the nightcap, Jade Avedisian took the lead from Casey Roderick and pulled away in a caution-free race to score her first Super Late Model win. The win makes her just the second female driver to win a Super Late Model race at the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing.
