The lineup for the 109th Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge is set for May 25 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Rookie Robert Shwartzman, driving for upstart PREMA Racing, stunned the field, captured pole position with an impressive four-lap average of 232.790 mph, the first rookie to do so since 1983. Shwartzman entered qualifying weekend with +20000 odds of winning the Indy 500.

Veteran Takuma Sato (232.478 mph) and Arrow McLaren's Pato O’Ward (232.098 mph) rounded out an eclectic front row representing Israel (Shwartzman), Japan (Sato) and Mexico (O'Ward).

Saturday’s Day 1 fast qualifier Alex Palou at 233.043 mph was nearly 2 mph slower on Sunday as he timed sixth among Fast 6 drivers.

Scott Dixon, Felix Rosenqvist, and Palou make up the second row. Team Penske endured an adverse day staeting with last year's Indy 500 polesitter Scott McLaughlin crashing in practice, while Josef Newgarden and Will Power missed the pole shootout due to inspection failures, landing 11th and 12th.

The Last Chance Qualifying saw Marco Andretti, Marcus Armstrong, and Rinus VeeKay edge out Jacob Abel for the final spots.
