The Saturday finale of week 2 put the “winter” back in Winternationals with cold windy conditions reducing the fan count, but drivers turned in for the final night of competition.

The second night of the DIRTCar UMP portion of the 2022 Winternationals saw an increase in car count as well as the addition of the season opener for the Top Gun Sprints series. The pit area saw 63 Modifieds and 26 Sprints for a Thursday night racing.

The race serves as the kickoff of the 2022 outlaw drag racing season, with a host of small-tire classes set to join the headlining Pro Mod show.

VADO, N.M. — Earl Pearson Jr. wrapped up the 16th annual Wild West Shootout presented by O’Reilly Auto Parts with a runner-up finish in Sunday’s $25,000-to-win finale. Finishing 2.260 seconds behind miniseries champion Mike Marlar of Winfield, Tenn., Pearson vaulted from seventh to fourth in the final point standings.
