Rusty Schlenk sort of reluctantly decided to end his six-year absence from World 100 competition, entering the action after feeling pretty good about his 12th-place run in a Baltes Classic semifeature on Sunday. Eldora’s major events have never been high on the budget-conscious driver’s to-do list, but he thought he’d take a shot at the big show for the first time since 2019.

ROSSBURG, Ohio — Ricky Thornton Jr. an … underdog? Could one of Dirt Late Model racing’s biggest stars really not be among the favorites to win a crown jewel event?

Overtaking race-long leader Jonathan Davenport on a lap-42 restart, polesitter Ricky Thornton Jr. of Chandler, Ariz., led the rest of Saturday's World 100 to earn $72,000 and his first crown jewel at Eldora Speedway. On a restart with 10 laps remaining after a flat tire for Davenport, Thornton pulled away from 19th-starting Dale McDowell and Nick Hoffman to secure the victory. Ricky Thornton Jr. started on the pole, was third at the first lap and slipped back to fifth on laps 21-24 before heading back the right direction. He gained spots on restarts and took command on the 42nd lap.
