Live From New Smyrna: World Series Of Asphalt Friday Updates

It's opening night for the 2022 World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing. Follow along on this page for lineups, results and updates as you watch the action live on FloRacing.

What To Expect Friday Night

Opening night features five divisions of racing including Super Late Models, Pro Late Models, Modifieds, Sportsman and Bombers. With no long-distance races on the schedule this evening, drivers will be up on the wheel attempting to win on opening night.

Notes

- Stephen Nasse didn't initially plan on competing Friday night; however, he has made the late decision to enter the race. He isn't aware of how many races he'll compete in this week and plans to take in day by day.

- Similarly, Derek Griffith didn't plan to race in the Pro Late Model division tonight. He made the late decision to attempt qualifying and will make a decision on whether or not to race following qualifying. The two-time defending Super Late Model champion will be in action in his No. 12G Super Late Model.

- Sammy Smith is in the house after recently announcing full-time ARCA Menards Series plans with Kyle Busch Motorsports. Smith will be driving for Donnie Wilson Motorsports, the same team he won the Winchester 400 with last year. Smith is no stranger to victory lane at the New Smyrna World Series, and he'll be looking to contend for a championship this year.

- A pair of Wisconsin drivers have made the trip south to compete in the Super Late Model division. Both Justin Mondeik and Gabe Sommers return to the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing after recent appearances.

- Brad May and Sammy Smith led today's two Super Late Model practice sessions.

Format

Tonight's format will feature qualifying (time trials) for Super Late Models and Pro Late Models. Following qualifying there will be a draw to determine an invert of two, four, six or eight for the feature race. Modifieds, Sportsman and Bombers used practice times to determine the starting lineup for their features.
