Johnson’s Super DIRT Week victory back in 1979 marked history for being the first New York State driver to have won the event. He later went on to win one more Super DIRT Week victory in 1984.

Johnson sits atop the modified all time win list with 149 big block modified victories at ‘The Track of Champions,’ he is also the driver with the most track championships at Fonda with 11 titles to his name. This event is only fitting to tribute the legendary driver from Duanesburg, NY.

“Jack has been and always will be an icon at Fonda,” said Fonda Speedway promoter, Pete Demitraszek. “Even with Stewart Friesen’s talent, I think it will be hard to surpass Jacks all time wins at Fonda. Jack was one of the gentlemen in racing which is one of the reasons why we decided to continue this tradition. He’s one of Fonda’s true champions.”

This year’s fourth annual ‘The Jack’ 100 winner will receive a guaranteed starting spot for the 200-lap NAPA Super DIRT Week XLVII finale on Sunday October, 7that Oswego Speedway.

Demitraszek is pleased that they were able to reschedule this prestigious event for this coming Monday at ‘The Track of Champions.’

“This race is important to the fans as well as the racers,” Demitraszek said. “This year we have a guaranteed starting sport for Oswego in the fall, which is one of the reasons why we rescheduled the race. Then in another month we’ll have another series race, so we didn’t want to overload everyone, which is why we pushed to get this rescheduled.”

Demitraszek is looking forward to a successful event with the stars and cars of the Super DIRTcar Series invading the fast half-mile dirt track Monday evening.

“We’re looking forward to a good car count,” added Demitraszek. “Hopefully DIRTcar will get their platinum drivers to my track. I understand some have been dropping off the series, which I’m not happy with, but when we signed up to do these races we expected to see at least 20 tour guys, plus our regulars. We’re hoping for good weather and a good crowd. That’s all we’re asking for.”

Previous winners of the prestigious Jack Johnson tribute event are Stewart Friesen, Matt Sheppard and Mike Mahaney.
