This Wednesday, August 1st, the Super DIRTcar Series will be making their lone appearance to the fast half-mile, clay oval for the inaugural Jack Johnson Tribute at Fonda Speedway.

The clay oval, known as the track of champions, houses some of the top drivers every Saturday night. One driver in particular who has been on top of his game this season, Stewart Friesen, will be in attendance Wednesday evening to defend his home turf.

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series standout, Friesen, who has been running Saturday nights, schedule permitting, at Fonda Speedway has shown to be the king ping every time he sets foot at the speedway.

Friesen has been to Fonda seven times so far this season and has visited victory lane six times out of the seven.

Not only has Friesen been hot at his Saturday night home track but just about everywhere he takes his Halmar International No.44 machine. So far this season Friesen has collected a total of 15 victories to his name.

“We’ve been really good this season,” Friesen said. “I’m looking forward to running Fonda on Wednesday. I love that track. It’s no more than ten minutes from my home plus Jess gets race with me when we run on Saturday’s so it’s been fun for us.”

With six victories under his belt at Fonda Speedway this year, Friesen and his team will be the man to beat come Wednesday night.

“We have a good baseline,” Friesen noted. “A 100-lap race will be different than a regular 30-lap show but all of the DKM guys have been working hard there. This race is one of the highlights on our schedule. The Jumpin Jack tribute is special to everyone in our area”

With the Big Block Modified regulars that run weekly at the clay oval, plus the Super DIRTcar Series regulars, Friesen is anticipating this to be a great race.

“It’s going to be tough,” he said. “The regulars are really good at Fonda – Jeremy Wilder, Bobby Varin, Josh Hohenforst… Then you put the series guys like Matt Sheppard, Jimmy Phelps, Max McLaughlin and one of my favorites, The Doctor, you throw all of those guys in there with the regulars and it’ll be an awesome show.”

The driver out of Sprakers, NY may not be leading the Super DIRTcar Series points but currently sits on top of the charts with the most victories on the series against the best in the business.

“We’ve been strong everywhere,” Friesen said. “We worked on our stuff for the last three years to try and keep up with Sheppard. He’s raised the bar for everybody. Right now, I feel like we’re not quite as good as we should be but if we miss the setup one night, we’re still close. We have a really good package right now. The hard work has been paying off.”

Another driver who will be looking to defend his home turf against the series regulars will be last year’s Super DIRTcar Series victor and current Fonda Speedway points leader, Bobby Varin.

Last year saw Varin come out on top for the St. Lawrence Radiology 100 back in September over his son Danny Varin, Pat Ward, Billy Decker and Matt Sheppard.

Varin currently has two victories under his belt so far at his Saturday night home track and will be looking to defend his title once again this year when the Super DIRTcar Series stars and cars come to town.
