Jason Johnson And Richard Marshall Part Ways For 2018
After one year of partnership, Jason Johnson and Richard Marshall are heading their separate ways.

Around this time last year Jason Johnson Racing announced a partnership with Marshall Racing for the 2017 season and Johnson’s third full season in the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series. After one year, the two are amicably separating. Jason Johnson will continue to drive the JJR No. 41 acting as owner along with his wife, Bobbi Johnson.
“I appreciate the support and time we have had with Richard and Jennifer Marshall since they joined our team as sponsors initially, which eventually grew into a partnership for the 2017 season.” Johnson said. “They are both influential people that have a passion for the sport and supported and encouraged us to make us better on and off the track. I wish them only continued success as they move forward with their racing endeavors.”
Earlier during the offseason, Marshall announced a new partnership with Ryan Newman to field a USAC Sprint Car team and he still has an interest in Bacon/Marshall Racing. Marshall has also recently stepped up his involvement with Ricky Stenhouse Jr.’s team as Stenhouse Jr./Wood Racing transitions to Stenhouse Jr./Marshall racing.
Marshall also announced on Tuesday that he’s entered into a new sponsorship relationship with Logan Schuchart and the Shark Racing No. 1 team.
Before the Johnson partnership, Marshall was involved as a sponsor since the first year Johnson joined with the Outlaws in 2015. Marshall and his Priority Aviation have several major and minor sponsorships across multiple series in open wheel Dirt Track tracing.
“We will never forget that [first] night [of sponsorship] as it was rewarding to celebrate with Richard, Jennifer and all of our sponsorship partners, and supporters as we came together to win the biggest race in sprint car racing — the Knoxville Nationals,” Johnson said.
As JJR transitions back to a family-run team, Jason, Bobbi, longtime crew chief Philip Dietz, and crew member Jeff Bingaman will focus on what has brought them success in the past, including Johnson’s 2016 Knoxville Nationals win.
It’s unclear if Richard Marshall’s company Priority Aviation will continue as a sponsor in any capacity for Johnson in the 2018 season, but presumably that relationship will also end.
Marshall’s insatiable appetite for Sprint Car racing does not seem to have been sated yet, but this announcement is proof that there is only so many resources to go around.
