Kasey Kahne is set to return to Sprint Car competition, stepping in for the injured Anthony Macri in the Macri Motorsports No. 39M for a 10-race schedule across Central Pennsylvania next month, beginning this Friday at Williams Grove Speedway.
Macri Motorsports announced the move Monday, noting that Macri will remain sidelined as he continues to prioritize his health and recovery from compression fractures of the T4 and T5 vertebrae in a crash at Williams Grove earlier this month.
“With Anthony Macri continuing to keep his health and healing process as a priority, he is unable to return behind the wheel at this time,” the team said in a statement. “Macri Motorsports has decided to temporarily fill the seat of the 39M to keep the crew fresh and support our local tracks in the midst of some big events.”
The 46-year-old Kahne, the former NASCAR Cup Series star who stepped out of his own No. 9 last July 22 to focus on being a full-time team owner, has not competed in a Sprint Car event in nine months when he finished 18th at Lernerville Speedway with Interstate Batteries High Limit Racing.
The team emphasized that Kahne’s schedule remains “tentative and fluid” as Macri continues his recovery process.
“We appreciate the continued and unwavering support of all the fans,” the team said.
