Reigning Kings Royal champion Anthony Macri is facing another setback after sustaining back injuries in a crash while leading Friday’s Sprint Car feature at Williams Grove Speedway.

Macri was transported to a local hospital following the incident and has since been diagnosed with compression fractures of the T4 and T5 vertebrae, according to a team statement released Saturday afternoon.

“At this time, there is no confirmed timeline for his return to competition, as he will undergo medical evaluation and follow-up care,” the team said.

The Dillsburg, Pa., driver led Friday’s main event at the paperclip-shaped half-mile oval when he hopped the cushion navigating lapped traffic.

The injuries mark Macri’s second bout with compression fractures in the past six months. He was previously sidelined following a crash at Eldora Speedway last September, an incident that also resulted in a T4 compression fracture and three weeks missed from competition.

Macri entered the weekend ranked sixth in FloRacing’s most recent Sprint Car power rankings, owning three victories this season — including a pair of World of Outlaws wins earlier this year at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Fla. — along with five podium finishes and nine top-10s across 12 starts.

“Anthony and the entire team would like to extend their sincere appreciation for the support, messages, thoughts, and prayers received,” the statement read. “Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.”

No timetable has been established for Macri’s return as he begins the recovery process.
