The stars from modified racing in America are coming out for the Pace-O-Matic King of the Modifieds presented by Dominion Energy on Saturday, March 21, at South Boston Speedway in Virginia.

The most prestigious SMART Modified Tour event is also the richest Tour-Type Modified race in the country. The winner will nab $20,000, plus lap money, while the entire purse is more than $100,000.

Drivers from 10 different states make up a 34 car entry list for the Pace-O-Matic King of the Modifieds presented by Dominion Energy. The talented roster is highlighted by some of the best in modified racing.

Luke Baldwin, the two-time and defending SMART champion, is hoping to win his second KoM race in the first three years of the event. Baldwin is a six-time winner with the SMART Mods.

30-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour winner Ron Silk returns for the second-straight year to South Boston Speedway. He led 34 laps in the King of the Modifieds last year.

Patrick Emerling, who scored two wins during Florida Speedweeks at New Smyrna Speedway, will make his first start in the event. The New York driver is a nine-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour winner and a three-time Race of Champions Modified Series champion.

Putting a little pizazz in this year’s King of the Modifieds event will be “Showtime,” Jimmy Blewett. The seven-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour winner from New Jersey will wheel the PSR Chassis house-car number 17 in the event. Blewett has more than 250 wins in his career.

Both winners of SMART Modified events in 2026, Brandon Ward and Danny Bohn, will be vying for the biggest trophy of the season. Ward’s Polaris number-04 drove to victory lane in the season opener at Florence Motor Speedway (SC), and Bohn’s Alpine Partners number-25 won at Anderson Motor Speedway (SC).

Three-time SMART champion and former winner at South Boston Speedway, Burt Myers (1), will be looking to be crowned the King of the Modifieds. His son, Slate (4), will also be in contention during the 125-lap event.

Speaking of stars, the King of the Modified event will have a little NASCAR flare. Former Daytona 500 winner Ryan Newman (2) and NASCAR Trucks Series winner Joey Coulter (02) are championship contenders with the SMART Mods. Three-time NASCAR Cup Series winner, and South Boston Speedway favorite, Elliott Sadler (16va) will be racing a Modified for the first time on Saturday, March 21.

Making a return to SMART competition will be series championship contender from one year ago, Paulie Hartwig, III. The now 15 year-old Rookie of the Year contender on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, won a SMART race at Hickory Motor Speedway (NC) last spring.

A ZMAX CARS Tour Late Model Stock Car driver will also be back behind the wheel of a modified. Carson Loftin has six wins in SMART and will wheel the Shady Grady Racing number-15 car. Loftin won the open-competition modified event last Saturday at Caraway Speedway (NC).

Other drivers making the trek to southern Virginia are Stephen Kopcik (1) and Chris Pasteryak (5ct) from Connecticut, Trevor Catalano (56) and Jake Lutz (14) from upstate New York, Blake Barney (27) and Carsten DiGiantomasso (33) from New Jersey, Brad Zahensky (23nh) from New Hampshire, and Austin Kochenash (66), Jayden Harman (51) and Jake Christman (48) from Pennsylvania.

The top drivers from the SMART Tour will be hoping to wear the crown in victory lane after the King of the Modifieds event, including Jack Baldwin (7ny), Daniel Yates (18), Jimmy Wallace (21) Joey Braun (24), Carter McMurray (40), and Jonathan Cash (79).

Several rookie drivers with SMART are hoping to make their first start at South Boston Speedway. Sean McElearney (99) already has a Pace-O-Matic Pole award in 2026, while Will Lambros (77), Max Handley (45) and Austin McDaniel (14) are knocking on the door for top-five finishes.

Practice and qualifying for the Pace-O-Matic King of the Modifieds presented by Dominion Energy is on Friday, March 20, at South Boston Speedway in Virginia. Raceday for the 125-lap SMART modified event, plus a 100-lap NASCAR Late Model event and a dash for the Groundpounders will be on Saturday, March 21. Tickets are currently available online through the track website. For more information regarding the King of the Modifieds, please visit the EVENT HUB on the SMART Modified Tour website.
