Daytona 500 Winners List by Year: Here's The Full List

The Daytona 500 has been around since 1959, and there are a lot of familiar names on the list of winners. See who won the first 67 editions.

Despite a history that spans nearly seven decades, the list of drivers who have won the prestigious Daytona 500, the biggest spectacle of the NASCAR season, more than once is relatively exclusive.

In fact, only 13 drivers have found the winner’s circle multiple times, with Richard Petty topping the list with seven victories from 1964-1981. Cale Yarborough is second with four.

But who else has won the Daytona 500 and taken home what has been known as the Harley J. Earl Trophy since 1997?

There have been 43 different winners at the Daytona 500, which was held for the first time in 1959. Will we see a new name added to the list when the 2026 race happens Feb. 15?

The first edition of the Daytona 500 was won by Lee Petty in a photo finish that took three days to analyze and included a reversal of the original decision that declared Johnny Beauchamp the winner.

Five years later, in 1964, Petty’s son, Richard, won the Daytona 500 for the first his record seven victories. His first win set another record, too, as he led for 184 of the 200 laps.

Two years after that victory, “The King” became the first person to win the race for a second time.

Another amazing stat is that from the inaugural race in 1959 through 2008, there was a Petty in the race every year.

In 2011, Trevor Bayne added his name to the list of champions one day after his 20th birthday, making him the youngest winner in history, but that accomplishment nearly was lost as part of a series of records that year that still stand: cautions (16), caution laps (60) and lead changes (74).

Along with Petty and his wins record, another four drivers have won the Daytona 500 three times, and seven have won twice, including two-time defending champion William Byron of Charlotte, North Carolina.

In 2025, Byron became the fifth driver in history to win in back-to-back years. Now, he’ll take aim at becoming the first person to win three consecutive times.

The 2026 race, which will include 41 cars, is set to get underway at 2:30 p.m. Eastern and will be broadcast live on FOX.
