Weather Causes Major Schedule Update For 2025 Snowball Derby

The 2025 Snowball Derby was set to begin qualifying action on Dec. 4. Due to inclement weather in Pensacola, Fla. here is the newest schedule update!

The 2025 Snowball Derby will continue to get longer for racing fans in Pensacola, Fla. or those watching at home on Flo Racing. 

The weather in Pensacola, Fla. has proven to to show itself in its true fashion. Rainy, wet and causing chaos wherever it wants to. Unfortunately, it just had to make an appearance on Snowball Derby weekend. 

With qualifying action set to kick off on Dec. 4 for the the Late Super Model and Pro Late Model cars, it is no longer an options due to on-going and possible inclement weather over the next several hours that has affected track conditions. 

Due to this weather and other predicted weather across the weekend, all on-track action for the Super Late and Pro Late Models has been suspended for the remainder of Thursday, Dec. 4. 

Three major races were also on the schedule for the evening hours of Dec. 4. Race Officials will reconvene at 3PM ET to discuss to possibility of having the Pro Truck, Sportsman and Pure Stock races as scheduled as qualifying for these races is set to begin at 4PM CT.

Snowball Derby Schedule On Friday, Dec. 5

All times are CT. 

  • 8:00 a.m.: Gate opens
  • 9:00 a.m.: Drivers meeting
  • 10:00–11:00 a.m.: Snowball practice
  • 11:00–11:45 a.m.: Snowflake practice
  • 11:00 a.m.: Snowball tires moved
  • 11:45 a.m.–12:45 p.m.: Snowball practice
  • 12:45–2:00 p.m.: Snowflake practice
  • 1:30 p.m.: Snowball qualifying tech
  • 2:00–2:25 p.m.: Pro Truck practice
  • 2:30–2:55 p.m.: Sportsman practice
  • 3:00–3:25 p.m.: Pure Stock practice

The day will end with: 

  • Snowball qualifying

Racing begins

  • Snowball LCQ
  • Pro Truck
  • Sportsman
  • Pure Stock

Note: Due to parking restrictions, the Crown Stock Invitational Race will be a support division for the Modifieds of Mayhem race as originally scheduled on Monday.

What Is The Snowball Derby?

The Snowball Derby is a 300-lap Super Late Model race, but more importantly, it’s the biggest short track race contested on pavement each year. This year, a $50,000 prize and the coveted Tom Dawson trophy will once again be up for grabs.

The Super Late Model race is also the culmination of four days of racing at Five Flags Speedway. The event also includes the biggest Pro Late Model race of the year, the Snowflake 125, on Saturday night, which will also be broadcast live on FloRacing.

Where Is The Snowball Derby Held?

The Snowball Derby is held each year at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida. Five Flags Speedway is a fast, but extremely abrasive half-mile oval. In addition to being the home of the Snowball Derby, Five Flags Speedway is also home to the Blizzard Series for Super Late Models, the Allen Turner Pro Late Models, and the “Sunshine State 200” for the ASA STARS National Tour.
