Beers Wins Title, Bonsignore Wins NASCAR Modified Finale At Martinsville

Austin Beers just needed to finish eighth or better on Thursday night at Martinsville Speedway to win his first NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour championship and become the youngest champion of NASCAR's oldest division. Apparently that was an easy mission to accomplish as Beers finished second and clinched his first championship in the 40th year of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.
The 22-year-old from Northampton, Pennsylvania surpasses Ryan Preece as the youngest champion in Tour history. Preece was also 22 years old when he won his one and only NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour championship in 2013.
Beers was battling with the four-time and defending champion Justin Bonsignore. Bonsignore needed to score maximum points to have a chance, but he also needed Beers to finish ninth or worse to claim his fifth championship and second in a row. Bonsignore did indeed score maximum points as he won the pole, led the most laps, and scored the victory at Martinsville Speedway for the second year in a row.
Stephen Kopcik, Joey Coulter, and Craig Lutz completed the top five. Tyler Rypkema, Eric Goodale, Conner Jones, Matt Hirschman, and Michael Christopher Jr. completed the top 10.
