Cody Kelley secured the coveted pole position for the season's most prestigious Late Model Stock Car race, the ValleyStar Credit Union 300, during qualifying Friday night at Martinsville Speedway. Kelley scorched the legendary "paperclip" for a fast lap of 19.865 seconds, topping a massive field of 67 drivers vying for a starting spot in Saturday's main event.

Hot on Kelley's heels was veteran Lee Pulliam, a two-time winner of the ValleyStar Credit Union 300, who qualified second in his second straight attempt at the race. Trevor Ward, Riley Gentry, and Carson Loftin completed the top five.
The four quickest drivers—Kelley, Pulliam, Ward, and Gentry—will start on the pole for their respective heat races Saturday. The remainder of the heat race lineups will also be determined by qualifying times. These heat races are crucial, as drivers must finish in the top 10 of their 25-lap heat to earn a guaranteed spot in the 200-lap feature.
Heat races are scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. ET. The 200-lap main event is scheduled to see the green flag at 7 p.m. ET.
