David Gravel Disqualified From Wednesday's High Limit Runner-Up At Eldora
David Gravel was disqualified from Wednesday's runner-up finish in the Double Down Duels at Eldora Speedway on Kubota High Limit Racing.

David Gravel has been disqualified from his runner-up finish in Wednesday's second semifeature of Kubota High Limit Racing's Double Down Duels at Eldora Speedway after series director Mike Hess found the front wing of the Big Game Motorsports No. 2 too far forward.
Per Rule 8.B.IV in the High Limit rulebook, "the maximum distance from the center foil front edge to the front edge of the front axle may not exceed 20 inches," and Hess found that measurement on Gravel's race car at 20.75 inches.

"Like, I can give them a little leeway just because it's not dead on and whatnot. But, over a half inch, there's just, I didn't have a choice," said Hess, who added in a postrace interview with FloRacing that "every race, you check the front wing to see how far forward it is" and that "it can't be past 20 inches."
"The front leading edge can't be 20 inches past the front axle. We measure with our tool every race, top-three of every race," Hess continued. "We gave it out at least five times today and measured. The tool came up that it was too far forward. So I had him go get a plumb bob and measure it a different way, and it was still too far forward."
"I grabbed the wing, made sure it didn't get hit, made sure it wasn't loose, and it was tight to the race car. I couldn't move it a millimeter or so. At that point, I just said, it's illegal. I can't, it's over, like, it's 20.75 inches. So for the rulebook, it's a disqualification."
The reigning World of Outlaws champ was scored with a 24th-place finish Wednesday, an 88-point swing in the Joker's Jackpot prelim standings that relegated him from a would-be tie for third (which would've locked him into a Row 2-starting spot) to now starting 12th in the second B-main that transfers the top-six to Thursday's $100,000-to-win finale. Hess surmises that Gravel's DQ wasn't intentional.
"I don't think that it was anything intentional. I don't know if other series measure different or whatnot. That's why I got the plumb bob to do it, (measure the second time)," Hess said. "So I just think it was an oversight that, you know, a half-inch honestly doesn't do anything in the front wing. But per the rulebook, it's too far forward. So you have to uphold the rulebook to do that. So that's that's where my hands were tied."
