The 35th running of Pennsylvania Sprint Car Speedweek presented by Red Robin Gourmet Burgers and Brews crowned a champion Sunday at quarter-mile Path Valley Speedway Park — a champion that's now put themselves in elite company.

For the third year in a row, Anthony Macri topped the PA Speedweek standings, joining Central PA's all-time wins leader Fred Rahmer as the only drivers to reel off back-to-back-to-back miniseries titles. Rahmer won four titles in a row from 1992-94 and another three straight from 2004-06.

"This is really special to get three Speedweek championships in a row," Macri said on the frontstretch after his fifth-place finish in Sunday's finale at Path Valley Speedway Park that clinched his title. "My guys work really hard, so hats off to them."

The 26-year-old Macri of Dillsburg, Pa., edged out Danny Dietrich by 37 points at the end of the initially-slated 10-race miniseries that lost three events to rainouts along the way. Despite Dietrich being the only repeat winner of the week, Macri's three runner-ups, two overall fast-times and never finishing outside the top-five is what netted him the title.

Macri strung together an average finish of 3.0 with results of fifth, second, first, fourth, second, second and fifth, compared to Dietrich's average finish of 3.9 where his Speedweek ledger included a first, sixth, eighth, second, first, fifth and fourth.

Dietrich could've won his third PA Speedweek title should he have won Sunday's feature and should Macri have finished worse than fifth. That scenario nearly played out Sunday as Dietrich started from the pole before contact with a lapped car on Lap 13 spun him out of second.

By virtue of the blend-in rule, Dietrich restarted sixth, but could only get back up to fourth after the spin.

"Obviously could've panned out a little bit differently if Dietrich hadn't spun out there," Macri said. "Just, I mean, we had a decent car. With everyone slicing and dicing up front, when he got back by me, I knew anything could happen at that point in time. Just tried to keep my nose clean. I think somebody said we had to finish inside the top-five to seal the deal."
