Preliminary action for the 53rd annual Jim Raper Memorial Super Dirt Cup commenced Thursday at Skagit Speedway in Burlington, Wash., with the opening night feature that precedes Saturday's $100,026.26-to-win finale.

Canadian upstart Levi Klatt stunned High Limit full-timer Justin Peck and the West Coast frontrunners, like third-finishing Shane Golobic, to win the 30-lap, $5,000 prelim in dramatic, comeback fashion.

Klatt, having never won in a 410 and making his 16th career division start, led the opening eight laps, lost the lead to Peck on Lap 9, but rallied to regain the lead in traffic with four laps to go.

Peck had mounted a lead as big as 1.7 seconds with 10 laps remaining, but once he reached traffic, his pace slowed as Klatt made his winning move in a back-and-forth battle. Before Eric Fisher's fourth and final caution on the Lap 28, Klatt beat Peck to the line by 0.161 seconds to restart first.

Four stoppages slowed the feature: Lap 4 for 12th-running Jesse Schlotfeldt, who spun in turn two; Lap 6 for 20th-running Mariah Ede and 21st-running James McFadden, both who turned over on the backstretch; Lap 12 for 19th-running Dominic Scelzi, who stopped in turn two; Lap 16 for 22nd-running McFadden, who flipped for a second in turn two; and lap 28 for 11th-running Fisher, who spun in turn four.
