Competing across the country with a touring sprint car series is already challenging enough as is, then you consider the trials and tribulations that the Murray-Marks Motorsports team faced in 2024 and it becomes quite the test for anybody.

Joining Kubota High Limit Racing full-time, Brent Marks ended a four-season stretch of picking-and-choosing his schedule to return to the road in 2024 and chase points. It wasn’t anything foreign to the Myerstown, Pennsylvania native – who traveled with the World of Outlaws from 2017-19 – but it would take some time to get re-acclimated to the big picture of points racing.

“There was a little bit of change it felt like,” Marks recalled on the start of 2024. “For the last several years, our mindset was win, win, win – now every time we hit the track, we have to keep the big picture in our minds. I think you have to be a bit more calculated and make sure you don’t put yourself in a bad spot to get those DNF’s, those are what hurt you the most in this deal. There are so many mental differences from chasing wins to chasing points that you don’t realize.”

“The schedule in general was a big change,” he said. “Doing my own deal, I pick where and when I want to go race and it’s mainly places that suit our style. With a series, you’re going to have to face some tracks you struggle at and that’s part of it. It’s a good challenge I think, and we’ll keep growing and learning what we need to different to be more successful at winning races and competing for the championship.”

From 2021-23, Marks was arguably the best Sprint Car driver in the country not committed to a series. He won 45 races in a three-year span which included his historic sweep of the $100,000 Historical Big One and $175,000 Kings Royal at Eldora Speedway and another $75,000 score at the National Open at Williams Grove.

You can see why when “The Myerstown Missile” announced his commitment to Kubota High Limit Racing that he became an instant championship contender.

The hype rang true in the beginning stages of the season when Marks piled up 14 consecutive top-10s to start the year, culminated by his first win at Illinois’ Tri-City Speedway in May. He was in the thick of things battling Brad Sweet and Tyler Courtney for the championship lead when the dog days of summer set the #19 back.

A trio of DNF’s back-to-back-to-back in June did damage to the points, but the biggest setback came in the work area at Lake Ozark Speedway when longtime crew member, “Fud” AKA Dennis Christ, suffered a compound fracture of his right leg. The scary moment brought everything into perspective but put the team down a man before the busy west coast swing. The snowball effect kept piling on and the hole became harder to dig out of.

“We need to get back on track to doing what works for us,” Marks said. “We went through a strand of shows where we struggled, and I think we dialed ourselves out of contention. Fud’s injury set the precedent for those next couple months would be and it was tough. We struggled with the car, we were worried about him, we had some bad races, and all the while you’re supposed to be figuring it out. We finally put our heads down towards the end of the year and really got our program back on track.”

A $50,000 victory in the season finale at Texas Motor Speedway was just what the doctor ordered to end the 2024 season for Marks, Fud, Heath Moyle, and Jared Goodling. With all three important pieces of the team returning in 2025, Marks is excited for the new opportunities that lie ahead and determined to leave a bigger impact on the new year.

Marks’ 2025 campaign with Kubota High Limit Racing will begin at Las Vegas Motor Speedway one week from today on Thursday, March 13 before a $25,000-to-win event on Saturday, March 15. The 60-race tour will conclude with All-In Championship Weekend at Texas Motor Speedway on October 17 and 18.
