Big Money Matt Loves Big Races
With 20 career wins at New Smyrna Speedway, race fans would likely assume that Matt Hirschman has scored the majority of those wins in the shorter 35-lap or 50-lap races. However, that's not the case. "Big Money Matt" has scored 12 extra-distance race wins, with seven of those coming in the Richie Evans Memorial 100 and five in the John Blewett III Memorial 76. He's pushing his legacy at New Smyrna into places that many can only dream of.
What Can The Big Shows Draw?
The model of the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at New Smyrna has changed to the point where we see the fields growing off the big shows during the week. This year, we'll see the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour on Saturday and the ASA STARS National Tour on Tuesday. Both can pull in extra cars for the week for Tour-type Modified and Super Late Model drivers making the trip and wanting to race more than one night.
Pros Going For 19 In 19
The Pro Late Model division will be seeking its 19th different Pro Late Model champion in 19 years. The class has been the most competitive class at the event for almost 20 years now. During that time there have been 64 different winners from 22 different states and three Canadian provinces.

Race No. 400 For The Supers
The opening night race at this year’s World Series will be the 400th race on record for the Super Late Models. During that time, there have been 97 different winners along the way. Canadian standout Junior Hanley still holds the record for most wins with 48 in the division.
Super Champion
Whoever claims the Speedweeks title for the Super Late Models will need to have to have a clean slate with little to almost no mistakes. Not only will we witness stiff competition each night for the shorter races, but drivers will also have to deal with the ASA Clyde Hart Memorial 200 field which was over 40 a year ago. Throw in a 100-lap Orange Blossom special to end the week and you have to be the best driver over 429 laps of racing to be crowned a champion.
A Quality Show
Gone are the nights of six or seven races making up the nightly race card at New Smyrna Speedway. A four-race max is what we are seeing in 2025 and the format seems to be appealing to both fans and drivers. The number of races for each division throughout the week has been adjusted as well to give teams nights off and to minimize the amount of time they need to be in New Smyrna Beach, Florida.
Going back to 2002, we found that the Limited Late Models and Florida Mods ran all nine nights that year. The Tour-type Modifieds and Super Late Models each had only one night off. New Smyrna has adjusted with the times to make it more appealing for drivers and teams.
Pro Late Models Chasing 70
If a different driver wins each night of this year's World Series of Asphalt, the Pro Late Model wins list could reach 70 drivers this year. Although it's not likely to happen with former winners in the field who will contend each night, it's mind-boggling to think the division has nearly 70 different winners in 20 years of action.
Super Late Models Chasing 100
Ninety-seven drivers have won in Super Late Model action by our records dating back to the first season of the World Series. If a few new faces visit victory lane this year, we could see the 100th winner in Super Late Model action at the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing..
Race No. 350 For The Tour-Type Mods
The Tour-type Modifieds will run their 350th race at the World Series on the third night they run. With no objections from Mother Nature, that number will be reached during the 18th running of the John Blewett III Memorial 76 on Wednesday. A historic week will see the Super Late Models hit 400 races and the Tour Mods hit 350 races.
Oh, Canada
Is this the year we see the return of Canadian dominance at the World Series? On the Super Late Model side, you have Cole Butcher who could content for a champion, should he choose to compete in all of the races during the week. Raphael Lessard could also be a driver to keep an eye on in the Pro Late Model division.
