Every division of motorsports has an event that drivers, teams and fans alike circle on their calendars every year. For Supermodified fans, that event is the Budweiser International Classic at Oswego Speedway.

This weekend, a group of the most fearless race car drivers in the country will strap into 800+ horsepower machines for the 67th running of the most prestigious Supermodified race in the world.

The annual race held since 1957 at "The Steel Palace" has been won by some of the best race car drivers in the world. Legends such as Bentley Warren, Jim Shampine and Eddie Bellinger Jr. have all tasted victory in the crown jewel event.

In recent years, a new crop of drivers have put their own stamp in the Budweiser International Classic record book.

Dave Shullick, Jr. has won three out of the last six Bud Classics, including back-to-back wins in 2021 and 2022.

“It’s always been special to me and my family," Shullick said of the Bud Classic tradition. "My dad finishing second and being on the pole three times, coming up here for a long time to have three [wins] is pretty special. Classic Sunday is a tradition all of its own.”

Otto Sitterly, who last won the race in 2018, is a five-time Classic winner. A win this year would place Sitterly in a tie with Warren, Nolan Swift and Greg Furlong as the event's winningest drivers.

“The Classic is one of those gems," Sitterly said. "Everybody knows about Oswego Speedway and the Classic is the biggest race of the year. For us, it would be a record-tying win if we are fortunate enough to get that.”

The event will also showcase the newest generation of Supermodified stars that includes 2019 winner Tyler Thompson and 2020 winner Michael Barnes.

One year ago, Barnes was on his way to becoming a two-time Bud Classic winner when he ran out of fuel coming to the white flag. Barnes' impressive weekend also included a track record (15.425 seconds) during qualifying.

A stout field of 30-plus Supermodifieds are expected for this year's event. In addition to the pre-race favorites listed above, former NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Bobby Santos III, former ISMA champion Ben Seitz and many more will be in action.

Qualifying for the 67th Budweiser International Classic will be held Friday afternoon. The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will take center stage on Saturday evening before the 200-lap main event on Sunday.
