Caleb Helms earned his first career victory in the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions on Sunday, September 3, at Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, Ohio.
Helms inherited the lead when the first two leaders of the race ran into lapped traffic. After grabbing the top spot from pole-sitter Joey Saldana on lap seven, Danny Mumaw clipped a car while trying to navigate traffic on lap 17. He collected the second-place Saldana, handing the lead to Helms.
Helms went to the top to maintain his advantage as traffic once again played a factor. Tim Shaffer caught Helms in dirty air. The two ran side by side from lap 26 through 29 until a late-race caution cleaned the track.
“That late caution definitely helped us,” Helms said. “I felt like we were finally starting to hit stride. I was able to get my wing back a little bit further and figure out where I needed to enter the corners.”
Cole Duncan grabbed the last podium position, with Chad Kemenah and Cale Conley rounding out the top five.
