Sam Hafertepe Jr. won his 13th race of the American Sprint Car Series season at Jackson (Minnesota) Motorplex while second-place points’ contender Aaron Reutzel failed to start the A-Main—giving Hafertepe a free race to run.
Hafertepe took the lead from Tim Kaeding on lap 18 because he had an opportunity to study his rival’s line.
"It just got a little dirty up where he [Kaeding] was running and being the leader in that situation, he had it all to lose. It's hard because he ran a hell of a first half to this race. He drove a good race at the end too, just didn't know where the track was going and when you're running second, you can move around and that's what we were doing,"
Once in traffic, Kaeding had to fend off a challenge by Thomas Kennedy and almost lost the second position on a late restart. He held on and scored his sixth career ASCS podium finish.
Kennedy wound up third with Wayne Johnson and Seth Bergman rounding out the top five.
