The FuelTech Shakedown Nationals XXI saw a number of changes leading up to race week, then the popular event was staring eye-to-eye with a less than desirable weather forecast on Saturday, originally scheduled as the main elimination day. The rain-stricken forecast put a dent into the racer turnout and the affects were seen through the pit area as testing began on Thursday morning. Event officials made the tough decision to advance the elimination rounds into Friday evening after completing qualifying to try and complete the event for the racers and teams who attended the 2023 edition of the popular event that has seen primetime performances for so many years.

One of the biggest spectacles of doorslammer drag racing, the FuelTech Shakedown Nationals, is returning to Virginia Motorsports Park on May 11-13 for its 21st running. Featuring some of the biggest names in heads-up outlaw racing from around the globe, Shakedown promises to once again raise the bar for both big tire quarter-mile and small tire eighth-mile action with more than $63,000 on the line.

Two of the most prolific drivers in nitrous Pro Modified racing, Jim Halsey and “Tricky” Rickie Smith, squared off in the Switzer Dynamics Pro Nitrous final round Sunday afternoon at the Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA) Mid-Atlantic Showdown presented by Classic Graphix. Racing at Virginia Motorsports Park, Halsey won when Smith went red. Halsey recorded a weekend-best 3.646-second pass to go back-to-back at the second stop on the 2023 PDRA tour.

The stars and cars of the PDRA are coming in hot to Virginia Motorsports Park on April 20-22, 2023, for the PDRA Mid-Atlantic Showdown Presented by Classic Graphix.

RC Components, a longtime manufacturer of racing wheels, has been named the Official Race Wheel of the Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA), series officials announced today. RC Components is the latest company to sign on in support of the PDRA’s 10th anniversary season.

As the 2022 season came to a close at the Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Trade Show in December, Amber Franklin celebrated her second world championship in the PDRA series. Once in Pro Jr. Dragster and now, the first female to win a championship in the competitive series’ professional categories. Not only did she celebrate her championship, but she also took the time to further her racing program in hopes of continuing her winning ways in 2023 through new relationships and partnerships, including a leader in the motorsports lubricant industry, Red Line Oil.

“Red Line Oil is a family; we are all enthusiasts for racing. Two weeks after Dane Wood reached his first final round in Switzer Dynamics Pro Nitrous, the Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA) racer scored a $15,000 victory at the second annual Summit Racing Equipment PDRA ProStars race Saturday night during Virginia Motorsports Park’s K95 Richmond Night of Fire. The Virginia native recorded a 3.797-second pass at 199.88 MPH in the final round to defeat Ed “The Iron Man” Burnley and his 4.077 at 145.19.
