Redemption was on Jake Drew’s mind when he arrived at Phoenix Raceway this weekend.

Jake Drew can take a deep breath, he doesn’t have anything to worry about.

Less than five days ago, the hauler carrying Taylor Gray’s David Gilliland Racing No. 17 machine crashed in Texas en route to Phoenix Raceway for Friday Night’s ARCA Menards Series race. The driver of the hauler, Steven Stotts, was tragically killed in the crash. While dealing with grief, the team had to decide whether to find a way to race or withdraw.

The ARCA Menards Series is still relatively new to Phoenix Raceway, as only a few races at the one-mile paved tri-oval in Avondale, Arizona, have run under the ARCA Menards banner.

A hauler carrying the race car for Taylor Gray crashed early Tuesday morning just south of Longview, Texas. The driver of the vehicle, Steven Stotts, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Texas Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Sgt. Jean Dark.

For the ARCA Menards Series West, it all begins again Friday at Phoenix Raceway.

If it wasn’t warm in the car, Corey Heim probably wouldn’t have even broken a sweat in Saturday’s Lucas Oil 200. He dominated the season-opener for the ARCA Menard’s Series at Daytona International Speedway, taking the victory for the second year in a row.
