One of the most-anticipated motorsports events of the winter will pack an even bigger punch in 2022. The sixth running of the Gateway Dirt Nationals at The Dome at America's Center in St. Louis is already breaking records with 144 dirt late models entered for three-day event that begins on December 1.

The record-breaking number of entries for the event is expected to also be the most entries for a dirt late model race in more than a decade.

With limited space available to park cars inside The Dome at America's Center, event officials have stopped accepting late model entries at this time.

All three former winners of the Gateway Dirt Nationals have filed entries for the event with inaugural event winner Scott Bloomquist, two-time winner Bobby Pierce and two-time defending winner Tyler Carpenter all entered.

A handful of past preliminary night winners have also entered with hopes of claiming their first main event victory. Two-time prelim winner Shannon Babb, 2017 prelim winners Hudson O'Neal and Gordy Gundaker, 2018 prelim winner Brandon Sheppard and 2021 prelim winner Myles Moos have all filed entries.

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver Carson Hocevar has also filed an entry after making his first career dirt late model start during World 100 weekend at Eldora Speedway in September.

Other notable entries include defending Dirt Track World Championship winner Ricky Thornton, Jr.,19-time Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series winner Tyler Erb and two-time Gateway Dirt Nationals Modified winner Mike Harrison.

Drivers competing in the event will be split into two nights of preliminary racing on Thursday, December 1 and Friday, December 2. Each preliminary night will feature hot laps, qualifying, heat races, b-mains and a $5,000-to-win feature.

Preliminary nights will set the stage for last chance qualifiers and a 40-lap main event paying $30,000 to win on Saturday, December 3.

A large field of Modifieds is also expected for the event with invitations currently being sent out to drivers.
