Jennerstown Locals Square Off Against Outsiders At Motor Mountain Masters

The Motor Mountain Masters at Pennsylvania’s Jennerstown Speedway is one of the biggest Super Late Model races in the Northeast, with $10,000 up for grabs to the winner. The 2022 version is shaping up to be one of the biggest yet with stars from all over the area ready to go for the win this Saturday, August 6.

Headlining the entry list is Hudson, New Hampshire’s Derek Griffith. Griffith is the defending winner of this event, and he’s seeking a change in his luck for the second half of the 2022 season.

This event even has a few of invaders from outside of the Northeast who are coming to try to tackle the big half-mile located a little more than an hour to the southeast of Pittsburgh. Those invaders include Friendswood, Texas’ Chris Davidson, who is a mainstay in Super Late Model racing in the deep south. Former NASCAR Camping World Truck Series competitor, Cale Gale, will be making the trip north from North Carolina. Gale has one Trucks win to his credit, a win he scored by beating Kyle Busch at Homestead-Miami Speedway in 2012. Tyler Johnson will also be heading north from North Carolina, and Michigan’s Evan Shotko will be making the trip eastward to Jennerstown.

One of the biggest names on the Motor Mountain Masters entry list is Joey Polewarczyk Jr. The man they call “Joey Pole” hails from Hudson, New Hampshire, and has victories in legendary races such as the Oxford 250 at Oxford-Plains Speedway, and the Vermont Milk Bowl at the Thunder Road Speedbowl. Joey Pole is a 20-time winner with the American-Canadian Tour and he also has seven Pro All-Stars Series (PASS) North victories.

Nicholas Naugle will be making the trip south from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia in search of the $10,000 check. The Canadian has victories with the East Coast International Pro Stock Tour, and he also scored a victory at the New Smyrna Speedway in Florida during the Pro Late Model portion of the 2020 World Series of Asphalt during Florida Speedweeks.

Conway, New Hampshire’s Gabe Brown is returning to Jennerstown Speedway for the Motor Mountain Masters for the second year in a row. Brown finished fifth in this race last year. Brown also has wins this season with PASS North and the Granite State Pro Stock Series.

Of course, those drivers will all have to contend with the strong force of local drivers who want to defend their home turf from the outsiders.

Jenners, Pennsylvania’s Barry Awtey is the defending track champion. He already has six wins in just 12 races so far this season, and as a result he is once again the points leader. Somerset, Pennsylvania’s Garry Wiltrout has a pair of victories this season, as does Nesquehoning, Pennsylvania’s Mike Sweeney. Brandan Marhefka of Windber, Pennsylvania also has a win at Jennerstown this season and is also entered for the Motor Mountain Masters 150.

The Motor Mountain Masters is a 150-lap event broken into three segments. The first segment totals 40 laps, the second segment will be 50 laps, and the final segment will be 60 laps. There will be a five-minute competition caution at the end of the first and second segments. Caution laps do not count throughout the entirety of the event.

Starting positions for the feature event will be determined by finishing position in the 10-lap heat races. The starting lineup for each heat race will be set based off time-trials.

Qualifying will take place at 5 p.m. ET with Opening Ceremonies to follow at 5:45 p.m. ET. Heat racing will kick off the night at approximately 6 p.m. ET.

Race fans who cannot attend the event in person can watch all of the action live on FloRacing.
