NEW EGYPT, NJ – Let’s get dirty. For the third time in three weeks, it’s Race Day for the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco. This time, New Egypt Speedway in New Egypt, N.J., takes center stage.

The D-shaped 7/16ths-mile track serves as the host to Round No. 3 of the Hurlock Auto & Speed Supply South Region for the STSS big-block/small-block Modifieds in the eighth running of the ‘Dirty Jersey’ midweek special.

A total purse of more than $26,000 is up for grabs, with $5,000 reserved for the first to drive under the Sunoco checkered flags at the end of 50 laps. Bonuses and contingency awards will be handed out, in addition to the hefty purse.

THE STORYLINES

The Hurlock Auto & Speed Supply South Region $15,000 championship chase marches on, as the STSS Modifieds run for the first time in nearly a month on the South Region. Two weeks after the ‘Dirty Jersey,’ the stars of the South take on the River Valley Builders North Region stars in the ‘Battle at Bloomsburg’ – a combination event at Bloomsburg (Pa.) Fair Raceway.

Potsdam, N.Y.’s Michael Maresca holds a slim five-point margin over Ringoes, N.J.’s Ryan Godown heading into the third round of the South Region. Maresca’s back-to-back podium finishes to open the region have vaulted him into the top spot.

The 2021 ‘Dirty Jersey’ was a thrilling battle, as Middletown, N.Y.’s Anthony Perrego outgunned Mike Mahaney and Max McLaughlin in the late stages of the 50-lapper for the $5,000 win.

THE STARS

Belle Mead, N.J.’s Brandon Grosso has gotten off to a red-hot start to open the ‘22 New Egypt Speedway campaign. The Saturday night regular has won five times in six races, with his lone loss coming in the form of a runner-up finish. Grosso finished fourth in the ‘21 ‘Dirty Jersey’ and was the runner-up in the ‘19 edition.

Max McLaughlin will climb aboard the Norm Hansell-owned No. 357 machine for another crack at the ‘Dirty Jersey.’ After leading more than half of the ‘21 ‘Dirty Jersey,’ the Mooresville, N.C., resident returns tonight with more experience at the uniquely shaped Central Jersey venue in pursuit of his second career STSS victory.

Ringoes, N.J.’s Ryan Godown is no stranger to New Egypt Speedway, holding second on the speedway’s all-time win list. Godown enters the ‘Dirty Jersey’ looking to regain the South Region point lead at his former Saturday home track.

THE SLEEPERS

Pipersville, Pa.’s Danny Bouc won the ‘20 track championship at New Egypt Speedway. Bouc comes into the ‘Dirty Jersey’ fresh off a runner-up at Georgetown (Del.) Speedway last Thursday in an unsanctioned event and sits second in NES standings.

The ‘21 New Egypt Speedway track champion plans on attending the ‘Dirty Jersey’ as well. Boyertown, Pa.’s Mike Gular enters the night fourth in STSS South Region points, after opening with a runner-up finish at Port Royal (Pa.) Speedway. The reigning NES champion will set his sights on the ‘Dirty Jersey’ title tonight.

Branchburg, N.J. native Ryan Krachun enters New Egypt still in search of a strong run with the STSS South Region this season. Krachun – a former regular at New Egypt – will look to shake off the bad luck in a relative ‘home game’ for his family-owned race team.

ALSO IN ACTION

Round No. 2 of the Belmont’s Garage South Region takes place for the Crate 602 Sportsman. New Egypt Speedway regular Nick Van Wickle claimed the South Region opener at Delaware International Speedway. The Crate 602 Sportsman battle for a $1,500 top prize in a 25-lap feature event.
