Have No Fear, The Chili Bowl Entry List Is Here

Sound the siren. Ring the bell. Do whatever you need to do to alert the race fan in your life. Entries for the 2022 Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals have hit the magic number.

After surpassing the traditional benchmark of 100 entries, event officials released the first look at this year's entry list early Tuesday morning.

Currently, 121 entries have been submitted for the event with many more expected to be filed prior to the event, January 10-15 at the River Spirit Expo Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Leading the way on the current entry list is the event's all-time winningest driver, five-time Chili Bowl Nationals champion Sammy Swindell. The 66-year old Tennessee driver has competed in all but three Chili Bowls since the event's inception in 1987.

1990 Chili Bowl Nationals winner John Heydenreich joins Swindell as the only other former winner currently entered.

As always, the Chili Bowl will once again bring together many of the top drivers from a variety of divisions including the NASCAR Cup Series.

Hendrick Motorsports driver Alex Bowman, a four-time winner this past season, filed the first official entry for the event. Alex Bowman Racing will also bring along two fierce competitors with USAC National Sprint Car Series winners C.J. Leary and Jake Swanson behind the wheel.

The top two drivers in the 2021 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series point standings will also be competing in this year's event. Series champion Brad Sweet and championship runner-up David Gravel have both filed entries.

Other Sprint Car stars currently planning to compete in the race include Spencer Bayston, Shane Golobic, Daryn Pittman and Zeb Wise.

Logan Seavey, who recently accomplished a historic feat by winning the season finale in all three USAC national touring divisions (Silver Crown, Sprint Cars and Midgets), will be looking to continue his momentum with a Chili Bowl win.

Of course, the Midget ranks will be well represented at the biggest Midget race of the year. Recent Hangtown 100 winner Justin Grant and the always-entertaining Thomas Meseraull will pilot RMS Racing entries during the event.

Open Wheel Modified standout Nick Hoffman will make his second Chili Bowl Nationals attempt after failing to qualify for the A-Main in 2021.

Jerry Coons Jr., who has 18 career Chili Bowl A-Main starts and three top-five finishes, will be looking to qualify into the A-Main for the first time since 2017.

The pavement world will also be represented at this year's event with CARS Tour Super Late Model champion Carson Kvapil and three-time Modified Racing Series winner Jacob Perry on the entry list.

A full look at the list of 121 entries can be viewed at the bottom of this story.

The Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals begin Monday, January 10 with the first of five nights of preliminary action. Those five nights will set the stage for the infamous run through the alphabet soup on Saturday, January 16 leading into the A-Main event.

All of the action prior to the C-Mains on Saturday will be broadcast live on FloRacing. The C-Mains, B-Mains and A-Main will be broadcast live on MAVTV.
