Whilst uncertainties around interstate travel left series organizers with no option but to cancel the 2020/2021 World Series Sprintcar Championship, the recent easing of restrictions with more expected in the days ahead has enabled Speedway Australia to join forces with track operators in Queensland and New South Wales to present the Super Seven Series to be staged across four venues over 14 days.
The tournament will kick off at Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway on Saturday, January 2, with Archerfield Speedway to host round two just 24 hours later on January 3. Teams will head north to Maryborough Speedway for round three for a Tuesday night show on January 5 and then return to Archerfield for a two-night fixture on January 8 and 9.
A trip across the border to Lismore Speedway in northern New South Wales for round five on Tuesday, January 12 will be followed by the series finale back in Toowoomba on January 16.
The series has been developed as a substitute for the traditional World Series events that would ordinarily be scheduled for the region at this time of the season and there will be two similar tournaments staged in Western Australia and South Australia/Victoria, the details of which will be announced soon.
With the exception of round four at Archerfield which will carry a $10,000 first prize, all rounds will pay $5,000 to the winner of the feature race, with Speedway Australia General Manager Tim Savell confirming a $20,000 series points fund. “In the absence of World Series Sprintcars this summer, we urge everyone to make the best of the situation by getting involved in these regional initiatives over the holiday period. We’re delighted to be able to support teams and tracks by sponsoring a points fund for these Sprintcar events.”
Whilst World of Outlaws star Donny Schatz will be unable to take part in the series due to ongoing restrictions on international travel, it is expected that the lack of racing so far this season in southern states will ensure an influx of competitors desperate to get their season underway.
More information about the series and individual events will be released soon.
