Just three nights after the 28th annual northeast Dirt Hall of Fame induction ceremony, where Danny Johnson, JoAnne Chadwick, Jerry Fried, Howard Conkey, Lester Jordan, Ray Brown and Pat O’Brien Jr. were inducted, the Super DIRTcar takes to Weedsport Speedway for the annual Hall of Fame 100.

Last year, Erick Rudolph took the victory, clinching a spot into NAPA Super DIRT week at Oswego Speedway. The victory was Rudolph’s first Big-Block Modified victory at Weedsport, a track that used to be a regular on the modified schedule.

NASCAR prospect, Max McLaughlin, finished second, with long-time veterans Matt Shepherd, Jimmy Phelps and Billy Decker rounding out the top five.

As for Sunday’s main event, Shepherd is coming off a victory in Tuesday’s (July 23) Autodrome Granby 100, north of the border in Canada. The win was Shepherd’s fifth victory of the season. Larry Wright, Stewart Friesen, Decker and the aforementioned Rudolph are the only drivers that have scored victories this season.

The last time the series visited the fast track on memorial Day (May 27), Rudolph was also victorious, recording his first triumph of the season. He’s also a winner earlier this week, holding off Friesen in the Racing Stock 100 at Autodrome Drummond.

Based on the May race at Weedsport, the Hall of Fame 100 is going to be won by one of the regular frontrunners. Decker was hot on Rudolph’s heels in second, with Friesen, McLaughlin and Wright inside the top five. Friesen will be competing in Saturday’s (July 27) Gander Outdoors Truck Series race before venturing over to Weedsport for his shot at the victory.

Keep an eye on Johnson in the No. 27J. The Doctor will likely have a pep in his step after being inducted into the Hall of Fame on Thursday evening. Through eight starts this season, Johnson is ninth in the championship standings, recording three top-10 finishes.

Entering the event, Shepherd hold a 101-point advantage on Wright for the championship battle. Mat Williamson sits third, but the battle for fourth is fairly intriguing, with Phelps, Rudolph and Decker separated by seven markers.
