The FIA World Rallycross Championship visited the SpeedMachine Festival at Silverstone for the second time last weekend, where Timmy Hansen and Andreas Bakkerud battled for victory in the final.

THE WINNERS:

Timmy Hansen

Even though Timmy Hansen has raced in every World RX event since the start of 2014 and his win at Silverstone was his seventh victory, he had never led the Drivers’ points. His second win of the season put him to the top of the table for the first time. Team Hansen MJP continues to lead the Teams’ Championship.

Anton Marklund

Sweden’s Anton Marklund gets faster and faster with GC Kompetition’s Renault Megane RS RX and the first podium of the season was a big reward for the 2017 FIA European Rallycross Championship for Supercar Champion. With Lithuania’s Rokas Baciuska joining Marklund and France’s Guerlain Chicherit in the team from the next round in Norway, a track that should suit the Megane, more podium results can be expected from the team.

Timo Scheider

After difficult weekends in Barcelona and Spa, Germany’s Timo Scheider was back in the groove at Silverstone. He made the final and with a move around the outside of the field in the first corner he moved up to third, and only just missed out on his first podium of the season.

Oliver Bennett

2019 is Oliver Bennett’s first season as a permanent entry the FIA World Rallycross Championship for private team Xite Racing, but the British driver knows the Silverstone track well and showed his speed by qualifying for the semi-finals for the first time in his career.

THE LOSERS:

Andreas Bakkerud

Monster Energy RX Cartel’s Andreas Bakkerud so nearly claimed his first victory of 2019 at Silverstone, he took the lead in the final but was passed through the joker lap strategies by Sweden’s Timmy Hansen for the win. Bakkerud’s Audi S1 was hampered by handbrake problems from the semi-finals, which may have cost him the win.

Kevin Hansen

Team Hansen MJP’s Kevin Hansen did everything right at Silverstone, following his brother Timmy Hansen into the joker on the final lap of the semi-final, only for a small mistake to mean his weekend ended up facing a barrier in the joker and he missed out on the final, and lost the points lead for the first time this year.

Guillaume De Ridder

Belgium’s Guiiaume De Ridder is having quite a lot of luck in his first World RX season with GCK Academy, but unfortunately for him, most of it is bad. After a great drive to a race win in Q2 and 12th quickest on Saturday, De Ridder retired from Q3 with suspension damage after he got hit by a sideways Liam Doran and didn’t make it back to the pre-grid in time for Q4, so missed the semi-finals for the third time in four races.

Mark Higgins

James Bond stunt driver and British Rallycross Champion Mark Higgins made his second ever World RX start at Silverstone but was slowed by a broken driveshaft in practice then handling problems on day one. When things were going well Higgins set good times, but he qualified outside the semi-finals.
