Silverstone Debrief - What the Teams Said
Here's what the teams had to say following round four of the 2019 FIA World Rallycross Championship, the Dayinsure World RX of Great Britain.
Round four of the 2019 FIA World Rallycross Championship, the Dayinsure World RX of Great Britain was held as part of the SpeedMachine Festival at Silverstone, where Sweden’s Timmy Hansen moved into the Drivers’ Championship lead with victory.
Here’s what the teams had to say:
Team Hansen MJP:
Timmy Hansen P1, Kevin Hansen P7
Kenneth Hansen (Team Principal): “Saturday was really good, we had a strong performance, were 1-2 in Q1 and finished the day 1-2 which was perfect. Bakkerud came back quite strongly today and won Q3 and Q4 but we also had a very good day. The only bad thing was the small mistake from Kevin in the Semi-Final that cost him second place and he finished sixth. We had a big fight in the Final with a big push to try to overtake Bakkerud with a joker gamble, which we managed to do. This time the joker decision was very late. Timmy normally can feel when he wants to take the joker but won’t know what it looks like behind him. It’s my decision as I am the spotter for Timmy and I didn’t have time to see the time gap, but suddenly there was a big gap. In turn seven, before the split with the joker, I just had a feeling that we needed to call it and Timmy took the joker. We knew that Bakkerud had some hot tyres and was losing performance and it went very well for us.”
Monster Energy RX Cartel:
Andreas Bakkerud P2, Liam Doran P6
Andreas Bakkerud: “We ended up P2 today. We struggled with some technical issues in the final, but I really think the pace was there today. Which makes it even harder to swallow... But, both RX Cartel cars were in the final, and we are climbing our way up the ladder. The only thing to do now is to steer the focus towards my home soil race at Hell RX.”
GC Kompetition:
Anton Marklund P3, Guerlain Chicherit P9
Anton Marklund: “A very good end to a very good weekend - we qualified for the final and we reached the podium, which was our target. We made great starts in the semi-final and finals, early jokers putting us in last in both the semi and the final and just kept pushing and had the pace to finish in P2 in the semi-final and eventually, p3 in the final. I’m really looking forward to Norway RX now.”

Timo Scheider P4
Timo Scheider: “Soooo close… P4 in the finals and super happy after so much up and down this weekend. Everything given to the end was worth it. Did you see it? If not then on Wednesday watch my vlog around this race to live it again.”
EKS Sport
Krisztian Szabo P5
Krisztian Sazbo: “Fifth place in Silverstone! Thank you for the support.”
GRX Taneco:
Joni Wiman P8, Timur Timerzyanov P11
Joni Wiman: “It was a late call for me to step in for Niclas and I tried to do my best, but struggled with a rhythm and set-up for this track. Eventually I must say that front row for the semi-final was a satisfying result. In the semi-final it all got very messy, very fast. Baumanis and Doran were fighting hard for the position and after the big jump I saw an opportunity and went for it. Unfortunately got squeezed on to the tire barrier and rolled the car.”
Team STARD:
Janis Baumanis P10, Jani Paasonen P14
Jani Paasonen: “I’m so happy for the new car because it’s a big difference to the old version, it handles and turns very well. Our split times are going in the right way, it’s only the driver that needs to concentrate to make all laps the same. The weekend was good for me, ok I missed the semi-final but you have to remember this is only my second race since seven years ago. I’m sure we can manage the semi-final and hopefully the final this season. I’m really looking forward to the next event in Norway at a great rallycross track.”
Xite Racing
Oliver Bennett P12
Oliver Bennett: “This weekend was lit, and it finished with drama for us too. All in all, big thanks to the team, Speedmachine and World RX for a sick weekend! See you in Norway!”
GCK Academy:
Cyril Raymond P13, Guillaume De Ridder P16
Cyril Raymond: “I’m really disappointed because we had the potential to do great things and go in the final, which I showed it in Q3 putting down the third fastest time overall. We had a nice bit of speed and it felt really great. Arriving in Q4, the technical issues we faced affected my confidence. I look forward to it being tomorrow, so I can shake this off and move on, I’m definitely not happy finishing in 13th and waiting in the car as reserve is a horrible feeling. However, it was a learning weekend for the team who did a great job, we made good progress on corner entry even if we still have to work on the full picture, but we are on the right path.”
