Russia’s Aydar Nuriev stormed to victory in the first round of the FIA European Rallycross Championship for Super1600 in Volland Racing’s Audi A1 at the Cooper Tires World RX of Catalunya.

Like Team Hansen MJP’s Timmy Hansen, Nuriev took a clean sweep at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya with quickest times in Q3 and Q4 that took him to TQ (top qualifier) in the Intermediate Classification, victory in semi-final one and a start to finish win in the final. The 2018 Euro RX Super1600 runner-up was followed through the event by Volland Racing team mate Arhur Egorov, including through the joker on the final lap on the final lap of the final.

Hungary’s Gergely Marton took his joker on lap three of the final and finished on the podium when Russia’s Timur Shigabudinov and Estonia’s Janno Ligur took the joker on lap six. At the joker lap exit, Shigabutdinov and the fifth of Volland Racing’s Audi A1 drivers, Switzerland’s Yuri Belevskiy had contact, leaving Belevskiy in the gravel trap on the outside of the track. Shigabutdinov finished fourth. After the final, following post-race scrutineering checks, Ligur was disqualified for a technical infringement.
