Strong Field Announced for Spa World RX Debut

The entry list for the Spa World RX of Benelux, round three of the FIA World Rallycross Championship on May 11-12 has been released by the FIA.

21 drivers will battle for glory at the world famous Spa-Francorchamps circuit, which includes the heralded Eau Rouge section of the Formula 1 track. 2016 Drivers’ Champion Mattias Ekstrom will return to the sport in the Audi S1 he used to win the Championship. He will drive for Team JC Raceteknik as team mate to Belgium’s Enzo Ide, who will make his World RX debut.

Finland’s Joni Wiman will also return to the sport in a third Gronholm RX Hyundai i20 as team mate to Niclas Gronholm and Timur Timerzyanov, entered under GRX SET. Also making his comeback to rallycross will be 2018 permanent driver, Belgium’s Gregoire Demoustier, racing for the Sebastien Loeb Racing team. France’s Herve Knapick will make his second start of 2019 after he drives his Citroen DS3 in round two in Barcelona next week. Team STARD’s second Ford Fiesta will be raced by Norway’s Pal Try.

The second round of the FIA European Rallycross Championship for Super1600 will also take place in Belgium. With the entry for the front-wheel drive class over oversubscribed, the final entry list will be published after the first round in Barcalona, when the priorities can be calculated.
