Dad Is 1st On The Scene After Daughter, Fellow Sprint Car Driver's Crash

A winged sprint car race at Land of Legends Raceway took a frightening turn Thursday evening when a driver crashed into a cluster of nearby trees.

A winged sprint car race at Land of Legends Raceway in Canandaigua, NY, took a frightening turn Thursday evening when a driver lost control of her car heading into a turn, veered off the track embankment, and crashed into a cluster of nearby trees.

Though Alysha Bay saw her 48a car sustain heavy damage after its left front separated from the chassis, the 24-year-old thankfully walked away with only a badly bruised arm in the crash.

And who was the first person on the scene to make sure that was the case? Her father and fellow Empire Super Sprints driver Darryl Ruggles.

Trailing six positions behind in the heat race, Ruggles immediately dipped through traffic and made a beeline to get to the scene of the crash after his daughter’s car went off course. 

When he came to a stop, Ruggles can be seen scrambling to remove his harness before rushing into a swirling cloud of dust to check on Bay, with safety crew members following closely behind.
