Donny Schatz beat the rain and held off the competition at Archerfield Speedway in Brisbane, Queensland Saturday night after taking the lead from Andrew Scheuerle on the fifth circuit of the 35-lap feature. Schatz was aided by a new format that was dictated by impending rain.

Instead of two heats to set the lineup, track officials opted for the single heat format that is most often used in the United States by the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series. Scheuerle won the pole as the winner of Heat two and used the position to grab the early lead.

Scheuerle’s bid for dominance was halted, however, when Callum Walker rolled to a stop in turn one. Scheuerle got a strong restart, but was unable to pull away from Schatz this time and the Outlaw slipped by in the bottom line on lap five.

Once in the lead, Schatz moved to the high side and rim-rode his way around the track—being challenged only on restarts. It was a vindication of sorts after Schatz came up one position short Wednesday night behind fellow American Logan Schuchart [https://www.floracing.com/results/6067039-east-coast-logistics-series-round-7/23501].

Saturday night, Schatz’s challenge came from the native Australians. Scheuerle followed the No. 15 across the line in second, Brent Kratzmann was third, and Peter Lack fourth.

Lucas Wolfe was the next highest finishing American in fifth.
