Ohsweken (Ontario) Speedway is currently between a rock and a non-company-owned-land hard place. The speedway has been forced to postpone three major events slated for its 2018 racing season due to losing the use of adjacent land needed for parking.

“We just learned that the dozens of acres we have always used for excess parking and camping will be unavailable,” track owner Glenn Styres said. “Without parking, we just don’t have room for our fans.”

Ohsweken only has one small parking lot near its pit entrance. And while that is ample for weekly racing, it cannot sustain the amount of parking required for the track’s major events such as the World of Outlaws Sprint Car series planned for mid-summer.

The Outlaws race is among the three major events postponed. The tour has been racing each summer at the track since 2007. Other postponed races include the Canadian Sprint Car Nationals and the Triple Crown Showdown.

Until this winter, the track had use of the 12 acres directly north of speedway as overflow parking for major events, but the new owners of the land plan to use the area, which eliminates the extra space. Racing will still take place at Ohsweken in its weekly divisions, which include Friday night races of 360 Sprint Cars, Crate Sprint Cars, Thunder Stocks, and Mini Stocks. The track’s full schedule will be released in after Jan. 1.
