The Outlaws Late Model Series Keeps The Old And Adds The New
The Outlaws Late Models enter their 30th season with a race schedule totaling nearly 50 events in 18 states.

The World of Outlaws Late Model Series enters its 30th season with a race schedule totaling nearly 50 events in 18 states — a long way from the 17-race, 11-state program it ran in 1998.
The 47-race 2018 season will kick off in a little more than two months from now with six races in nine days. As soon as FloRacing rolled out of Screven Motor Complex in Sylvania, GA, for the Georgia State Outlaw Championships, the track began preparing for the Winter Freeze that will be held on Feb. 9-10.
Three days later, the Late Models will be one of the headliners of the DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, FL, for four nights of racing. Their two best finishes from Volusia will count for National points, allowing the racers to go for broke knowing a bad result will be tossed out.
Interspersed throughout the season will be several marquee, multi-day events that draw big car counts and allow fans to vacation at the track.
Some highlights of the big events include the Tennessee Tip-Off on March 9-10 at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville and the Illini 100 at Farmer City (IL) Raceway.
Whynot Speedway in Meridian, MS, will host a two-day event for the first time this year on April 20-21. Both 50-lap features will pay $10,000 to win.
Another new event, the First in Flight 100 will be run May 11-12 at Fayetteville (NC) Motor Speedway, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Friday night qualification will be followed by a 100-lap race that pays $2,000 just to start the A-main.
For fans who like to travel with the Outlaws, June is highlighted by a three-race swing through the Northeast with stops at McKean County Raceway in East Smethport, PA, Ransomville (NY) Speedway, and Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, Ohio, on June 14-16. On the heels of that swing, the Firecracker 100 occupies three nights from June 21-23.
Another multi-night traveling show can be followed in August when the series hits Georgetown (DE) Speedway, Williams Grove in Mechanicsburg, PA, Port Royal (PA) Speedway, and Eriez Speedway in Erie, PA, on Aug. 16-19.
Of course, all dirt roads continue to lead to The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, NC, on Nov. 1-3. Record attendance for that event in 2017 sets the stage for another great showcase.
