When National Regulars Rolled Into PA, Rahmer Headed The Posse

Freddie Rahmer Jr. did not race in a lot of 2017's marquee events, but he made the most of his opportunities to score top 10s in almost two-thirds of his starts and notch top fives in 40 percent of his major league sprint car races.

A member of the famed Pennsylvania Posse and son of famed driver Fred Rahmer, the younger Rahmer stayed primarily in his region and made a big splash in a state rich with sprint car racing history.

Rahmer established his bid to be among the Flo 50 in late April when the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions came to town at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, PA. He started second to Tim Shaffer and finished behind Lance Dewease in a packed 45-car field.

When the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series came to Pennsylvania in May, Rahmer was once again more than capable of riding at the head of the Posse. He ran well in the preliminaries and started third before losing a lap in the A-main of the Gettysburg Clash at Lincoln Park Speedway in Hanover, PA. Two nights later, he finished third in the Spring Classic at the Grove.

However, it was in Pennsylvania Speedweeks that he really began to shine. Winning the opening night at Williams Grove on June 30 set him up for success through the event as he was prefect through the first six nights. He did not win another Speedweeks race but came close at Hagerstown (MD) Speedway and again at the Grove.

Rahmer won his second marquee event of 2017 when the All-Stars made another pass through the state in August. This victory came at Grandview Raceway and it was his 11th top 10 in 13 races.

The fall season did not go as well. Rahmer missed the feature both nights of the Tuscarora 50 at Port Royal (PA) Speedway and scored only one more top 10 after the leaves began to turn, but the solid summer etched his name firmly among the best sprint car racers of the year.

*Percentage points utilize the baseline belief that a win is a win in the major series covered. One hundred points is awarded to first and the points decrement below that as a percentage of the field. For example, in a 25-car field, each position behind the winner is worth four fewer points. In races with incredibly large fields, the points decrement to a less extreme degree. A 50-car field decrements two points per position, and drivers earn points even if they fail to make the A-main.
