Timothy Culp started on the pole and won the Wayne Harris Memorial Topless Turkey Nationals at Lonestar Speedway in Kilgore, Texas, on Saturday night, but his second COMP Cams Super Dirt Series victory of the season didn't come easily.

On the first lap, Culp cut a tire and was forced to the back of the 22-car field.

It took 26 laps to pass the 21 cars that stood in the way of Culp and Victory Lane and then another 14 circuits of cruising in the lead, but he persevered to grab his fifth career win.

"What a race. I guess we got lucky having a flat on the first lap. We had plenty of time to get back up through there," Culp said. "We really had the wrong tire on, but I don't know. I guess the Lord was watching over us. We ended up getting it done."

Culp is no stranger to Lonestar’s Victory Lane, having won a World of Outlaws Late Model Series race there this March.

When Culp dropped to the back of the pack, Tyler Erb inherited the lead and kept it for 11 laps. He handed the top spot over to rookie contender Zach McMillan on lap 12, but Culp continued to stalk his way through the field.

Once up front, Culp stretched his advantage to a little more than a second at the checkers over McMillan. Erb also had to pit for fresh rubber during the race before grabbing the final step on the podium.

The Topless Turkey 40 was the final race of the COMP Cams season, and Jack Sullivan needed only to start to clinch his third championship. That was good because he finished off of the lead lap in 13th.
