Racers often take a traditional route to the top: They begin running at their local track, tour regionally, and then join a national sanction. In 2018, Jamie Ball will take the next step in his career when he and White Lightning Motorsports join the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series full-time to run for Rookie of the Year honors.

"I'm looking forward to going on the road and testing our team against some of the best in the sport," Ball said. "We enjoy our home track of Knoxville Raceway, but we want to get out and travel the country more. We have a renewed excitement as we're working toward the 2018 season."

In 2017, Ball stretched his legs beyond Knoxville but still raced primarily in the Midwest. He scored top fives at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, NE, and 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa, and top 10s on a number of other tracks. One of his two wins for the season came at Lee County Raceway in Donnellson, Iowa. His other victory came at Knoxville.

"We'll be going to a lot of new tracks that will be challenging," Ball said. "We have the right equipment and people behind us that I believe even on new tracks we can have success."

Ball’s decision to move to the national stage was field by his 24 top-10 finishes in 28 races this year. The two wins and 16 top fives certainly didn’t hurt matters either.
