Thursday night at The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway saw the World of Outlaws Sprint drivers qualify for Friday and Saturday night alongside their Late Model [https://www.floracing.com/articles/6032352-marlar-richards-set-quick-time-for-outlaws-late-model-world-finals] and Super DIRTcar [https://www.floracing.com/articles/6032256-mike-mahaney-is-perfect-in-night-one-of-the-super-dirtcar-world-finals] colleagues.

A quick and durable track surface saw fast speeds clocked throughout the night. David Gravel topped the first sets of qualifying with a 12.530 second lap to start at the front of Friday’s first heat.

“Fast time is obviously how you want to start any night,” Gravel said, “Hopefully, we can park this CJB Motorsports on the frontstretch a couple of times this weekend.”

Daryn Pittman, Joey Saldana, Kerry Madsen, and Paul McMahan will also lead their heats to the green.

Two hours later, when the sprint drivers took to the track again, Trey Starks set a slightly slower pace of 12.606 seconds to capture overall Quick Time for Saturday night’s qualifying. Kerry Madsen won Flight A.

Starks improved three positions from his Friday qualifying attempt of fourth. A show of how well the track held up could be seen in that Starks was the second to last driver to take to the dirt in qualifying of the 52-car field.

“It’s really nice to see the track didn’t change with all the laps put on it,” Starks said. “As a driver, especially when you don’t draw well, that’s all you can ask for. The track being equal for everyone is a big key when you have a big car count.”

Friday night, the two qualification winners Starks and Gravel will start on the front row of Heat one. Donny Schatz—who earned enough points for his ninth Outlaw championship just by taking a qualification lap Thursday night—will start on the pole for heat two.

Saldana, Pittman, Dave Blaney, and Bill Balog will pace the field in the following four Saturday heats.
