This weekend, two major Sprint Car series will cancel their penultimate race weekends because of cold weather.

The World of Outlaws Sprint Series will not race in Dodge City (KS) Raceway Park for the Outlaw Boot Hill Showdown with lows forecasted on Friday and Saturday of 22 and 35 degrees, respectively.

The Lucas Oil ASCS Fall Fling at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, OK, was also called off.

The Outlaws now only have one weekend to try to catch eight-time champion Donny Schatz, who is 174 points ahead of Brad Sweet in second place.

“The Outlaw Boot Hill Showdown is traditionally an outstanding event that everyone looks forward to attending,” series director Carlton Reimers said. “However, in the best interest of the fans and racers that we have decided to cancel this weekend’s event at Dodge City Raceway Park.”

The Fall Fling was already looking at cancellation due to a solid chance of precipitation. But when rain left the forecast, the temperature projections continued to drop. As of today, they sit in the upper 20s lower 30s for both nights.

"When the rain moved on, we figured we had a shot but the temperatures just keep dropping to where now it's showing into the 20s and that's not good for anyone," event promoter Emmett Hahn said.

"I want to race as bad as our drivers, if not worse, but I don't know very many people who want to sit in the freezing cold like that just to watch a race, much less be in the car. It's not good for anyone, and I would rather make the call early so these guys and gals that are traveling don't make it all the way here just to turn around."

Sam Hafertepe Jr. currently has a 405-point lead over fellow Texan Aaron Reutzel.

ASCS will run a three-day show the weekend of Nov. 9-11 at Cocopah Speedway in Yuma AZ — where temperatures should not be an issue.

Meanwhile, the Outlaws will be closing their season next weekend at The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway, where #AllDirtRoads lead to the World Finals.
